Level Up Like a Boss
Regarding training, I like to put boxers into 4
categories: Rookies, Amateurs, Professionals &
Elites.
Rookies train boxing sporadically. 1-2 times of
training per week. They enjoy the sport of boxing
but are not able or willing to give the sport the level
of commitment required for competition.
Amateur boxers do boxing training a minimum
of 3 times per week. They will also include some
running at least 3 times per week. Boxing training
will be 90 minutes to 2 hours in length. Runs will be
5km-10km in length, depending on your fitness.
Professional boxers will be training twice daily,
5-6 days per week. This will include roadwork and
sprints, usually in the morning, and boxing training/
sparring in the afternoon/evening.
Professional boxer gets more 1:1 coaching with
their boxing coach.
An elite boxer is the cream of the crop. They will
train 2-3 times daily, 5-6 days weekly. An elite box-
er will have a team of individuals ensuring that the
athlete is at their peak. This team of professionals
includes boxing coaches, strength & conditioning
coaches, physiotherapists, sports massage therapists, nutritionists, sports psychologists, etc.
